Gap have been nominated for an award of shame for their failure to sign the Bangladesh Accord. You can help make sure they get it.
Fashion giant, Gap are one of the top purchasers of Bangladeshi-made clothes. Despite this they’ve refused to to sign the Bangladesh Health and Safety Accord. By doing so they’re actively undermining the agreement that would improve conditions for workers, and failing to face up to their responsibility.
It’s for these non gallant actions that they’ve been nominated for a Public Eye award of shame. The awards aim to shine a critical light on irresponsible business practices and provide a platform to publicly criticise cases of human rights violations, environmental destruction or corruption.
Gap are up against some pretty stiff competition, including Gazprom who played a huge part in the arrest and detention of the Arctic 30. We know it’s a hard choice, but we think 2013 should be the year for fashion. The Bangladesh building disaster was one of worst industrial accidents in living memory.
So please vote for Gap. We know that award will look beautiful on their reception desk!
