Fashion students in the UK will now get sustainability and ethics embedded in their studies thanks to Buckinghamshire New University.
The UK now has a socially aware fashion degree following the launch of the BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree at Buckinghamshire New University.
The course offers a creative approach to design, materials and processes, with the emphasis on sustainability. At the same time the course promises to maintain innovation the British fashion industry is famous for.
The course will cover issues including the environment, child labour, global supply chains and social and corporate responsibility. Students also learn about trend forecasting, research and development, and materials and processes. They will also develop skills in pattern cutting and manufacture, collections and exhibitions.
The course leader is Sian-Kate Mooney a sculpture artist who displays work nationally and internationally. She has owned her own fashion business for ten years, showing collections at London Fashion Week and Tranoï, part of Paris Fashion Weeks.
