Lilly Cole becomes the latest celebrity to join Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge, joining Meryl Streep and Cameron Diaz in the initiative.
At the premier of Snow White and the Huntsman, Lilly Cole did the previously unthinkable – she wore a dress she had owned for years.
Cole explained to Vogue magazine: “The reason it happened was that I felt it was absurd that I needed something new when I have so many nice dresses in my wardrobe. It was actually quite a relief to open my wardrobe and just pick something out. What is ridiculous is that this is interpreted as a slightly radical thought.”
When asked whether it should be the norm, Cole said she felt it needed to be. But with some many bright young actresses courted by designer labels to get their clothes in the spot-light, it will be a tough battle to win. While there are a few crusaders out there, it may be a very long time before we see wear again dresses regularly gracing the red carpet.
