Making your final fashion statement

Pia-InterlandiWhile women will obsess for months or even years over the perfect wedding gown, not many worry about what to wear to their own funeral. But an Australia designer thinks we should. After all it will be your final fashion statement.

Some girls have their wedding dress planned from an early age. And even those who consider themselves impartial to fashion rarely escape a little bit of fashion frenzy when it comes to their “big day”.

But what about the other big day? You know, the one right at the end. How many of us have planned what we’ll wear for that?

If not then why not? After all in terms of economics you’ll be wearing one much longer than the other. Surely it’s worth investing a bit of time and thought about it.

Pia Interlandi is an Australian designer who specialises in outfits for that final journey. Her company, Garments for the Grave, is an extension of her other work as a licensed funeral celebrant. And what’s more her collections are ethical and sustainable.

The growing interest in environmentally friendly funerals lead Interlandi to develop garments that would easily biodegrade. She works with clients to personalise their burial garment, using dye and embellishments as desired.

So if you hate the thought of mourners looking over the side of the coffin and thinking what is she wearing? then maybe it’s time to invest a bit of thought into that final fashion statement.
