A new line of environmentally friendly shoes puts Gucci ahead of their designer friends. Can they keep up the good work?
Gucci have announced a new footwear collection with eco credentials. The Sustainable Souls line are made with bio-degradable plastic and include ranges for men and women.
According to reports, the collection includes ballet pumps with cutout details and the company’s signature GG motif, and men’s trainers in both a low- and high-top version. They include bio-rubber soles, vegetable-tanned leather and something they’re calling bio strings (go figure!). The trainers also have a recycled polyester label.
Gucci also recently publicly banned the use of sandblasting on their jeans. This puts them ahead of their game compared to their rivals Dolce & Gabbana who refuse to take action on this dangerous practice that risks the lives of thousands of workers every year.
The Sustainable Soles collection will be available online and in their flagship stores worldwide at the end of June.
