A new generation of women in Afganistan are changing both lives and perceptions in a post Taliban era. With a new generation of female street artists emerging is the cool being put back in Kabul?
Banksy thought he had it tough trying to keep up his art and not get arrested. But he didn’t have landmines and bullets to dodge. He also wasn’t a women in a traditionally repressive patriarchal society. Not last time I looked anyway.
A new generation of street artists are now emerging in Afganistan, which seems ballsy enough in itself. To find out one of them is a woman is even more impressive.
In a country where not that long ago a woman could be stoned to death for simply looking the wrong way, it seems pretty up front to be doing this. The fact that she’s using her art to promote women’s issues is even more admirable.
When I see women doing things in seemingly impossible situations, I feel I have no right to do nothing.
Women are amazing. So go do something amazing today to change the world.
